The need for opening an English Medium School was first spelt out by the then Area Commander of Mymensingh Area – Major General M Harun – Ar – Rashid, BP, rcds, psc.
He convened a board of officers to determine the viability of an English Medium School in Mymensingh Cantonment. Later on, a detail proposal was forwarded on 01 Nov 1999. Finally the school started its classes on 19 January 2000. From January 2000, Commander, 19 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General A K Mohammad Ali Sikder, psc took the charge of this school.
The school was formally inaugurated as Millennium English School on 04 March 2000 by the then Area Commander Major General M Harun Ar-Rashid, BP, rcds, psc.Mrs Shahana was appointed as the first principal.
As each day passed, the school has become one of the most renowned English Version schools of the town. The School runs its classes from Pre-Nursery to Class IX and in the way to open Class X in the year 2024. Every Year the school shows a brilliant performance because of the sincerity, co-operation and co-ordination among students, teachers and guardians. From February 2010, the school has been renamed as Mymensingh International School (MIS) by the Authority. The school authority is still giving their best efforts to develop the school further.
In the year 2022, to keep the flag of MIS flying high, Military Principal was appointed here. Major Mst Sanjida Alam took the charge of the school as the first Military Principal on 21 November of the same year. She took some historical steps such as starting of Class IX, building Shahid Minar, to arrange training programs for teachers, special coaching classes for students and many more. 9 students out of 10 got talent pool scholarship in 2022. She gave due importance on cocurricular activities also and our students won prizes in different levels of national and intercantonment sports competitions.We hope to expand MIS upto college level in near future.
